Why This Lancaster County Reference Exists
Printed directories do not function as a complete current list for Lancaster County, yet the source trail remains spread across offices and research collections. Assessment and Recorder records answer land-record questions. Pennsylvania controls election access. LancasterHistory, Lancaster Public Library, and County Archives preserve historic sources. The useful first step is knowing the office, collection, date range, and limit before making a request.
Records and Research Routes
- Pages by question: the street directory for address-keyed sources, the Directory Book for historical collections, and the resident lookup for one-person verification.
- Custodians and collections: Assessment, Recorder, elections, court offices, vital records, and local-history holdings.
- Practical methods: tracing a street address, reading an older directory entry, and following a household through dated records.
- Access boundaries: Pennsylvania rules, records that stay restricted, and the request process when a record is not online.
Our Limited Role
This is a private reference service, not a Lancaster County office, Pennsylvania agency, court, or library. Its limits are important:
- We do not verify that a particular person currently lives in Lancaster County.
- We cannot retrieve, certify, or revise a custodian’s record for you.
- We do not add names to, or remove names from, a government roll or database.
- We do not provide legal advice about a record or disagreement.
- We cannot guarantee that every link, coverage date, or office detail remains current.
The office that controls a record is the only source that can confirm, certify, or correct it. Material found here cannot be used for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or other FCRA-regulated decisions.
